Malta destination guide

Xlendi

Xlendi is a narrow Gozo bay with a compact restaurant waterfront, swimming access and steep paths rising toward the surrounding coast.

Start planning
Xlendi Bay between steep limestone slopes

Xlendi works as a relaxed coastal base or a focused half-day from Victoria. The bay is small, and the character of a visit depends heavily on sea conditions, crowd levels and whether the surrounding paths are suitable.

Keep the scale of the bay in mind

Restaurants and buildings line the narrow waterfront, with swimming areas close to the centre. It can feel crowded in busy months. An overnight stay is about quiet mornings and evenings rather than a long list of sights.

Swim only when conditions support it

The sheltered shape does not guarantee calm or safe water every day. Use marked access, observe local advice and keep clear of boat movement. A coast walk or Victoria visit provides an alternative when the sea is unsuitable.

Climb with proper shoes and daylight

Paths rise quickly from the bay toward the headlands and Xlendi Tower area. Surfaces can be uneven and exposed. Carry water, stay back from edges and turn around when heat, wind or fading light makes the route less comfortable.

Use Xlendi as one part of a Gozo route

Buses link the bay with Victoria, where onward routes spread across the island. Pair Xlendi with the centre or one nearby western stop. Combining it with Marsalforn and several inland sites in one day creates unnecessary backtracking.
