Malta destination guide

Marsalforn

Marsalforn is Gozo’s main north-coast resort, with a sheltered bay, active promenade and access toward the traditional salt-pan landscape.

Start planning
Marsalforn Bay and its waterfront

Marsalforn offers more services than Gozo’s smaller bays and works well for visitors who want evenings by the water. Its strongest local outing extends west along the coast, where the scenery and walking conditions change beyond the resort.

Use the bay as the centre of an easy day

The promenade gathers restaurants, accommodation and swimming access around a compact waterfront. It is busier and more developed than Xlendi. Stay here for convenience and evening choice, not for an untouched village atmosphere.

Walk toward Xwejni with respect for working salt pans

The coast west of Marsalforn leads toward low rock formations and salt pans. Some pans are part of an active seasonal practice, not public paddling pools. Keep off marked or working areas, follow local signs and avoid damaging the shallow structures.

Check conditions before entering the water

Swimming and diving depend on weather, visibility and the selected access point. Use qualified local operators for diving and confirm the actual meeting place. A booking does not remove the need for a same-day safety decision.

Connect through Victoria for the rest of Gozo

Buses make Marsalforn accessible without a car, but many onward journeys route through Victoria. Build separate days for the north coast and western Gozo rather than expecting a direct coastal circuit. A car improves flexibility but parking can be tight in summer.
