Understand cookies, saved-route storage and optional third-party services on Discover Europe, including what is stored and how to manage your choices.

This policy explains the cookies and similar browser storage used by Discover Europe, what each item does and how you can remove it.

Cookies on public pages

Discover Europe does not start an application session on its public pages, so the public guides and planning tools do not need a Discover Europe sign-in or session cookie. Administrator sign-in is separate from the visitor website.

Saved route storage

Choosing Save on this device writes one route to browser local storage under the name discovereurope-route. It can contain the start date, destination names and codes, coordinates, nights, transport choices and planning details for the stops.

The saved copy stays on that device until you replace it or delete this site's stored data in your browser. Clear in the planner removes the working draft and keeps the saved copy. Discover Europe does not synchronise it to an account. Removing the saved copy does not disable a share link that has already been copied.

Optional video storage

Destination videos remain local placeholders until you press Play video. Before that action, no YouTube thumbnail or iframe is requested. You can keep using the guide without loading the player.

After you press Play, the page loads a youtube-nocookie.com iframe and records discovereurope.externalMediaConsent with the value granted in local storage. That record remains until you remove this site's stored data. It does not make later videos load automatically. YouTube may use its own cookies or storage after the player connects.

Maps and place search

Map tiles are requested from the configured map provider when an interactive map loads. Place-name searches that need geocoding are sent through Discover Europe to the configured geocoding provider. These are network requests rather than cookies set by Discover Europe.

Analytics and advertising

The current public site does not load an analytics or advertising service and does not set analytics or advertising cookies.

Manage your choices

Use Clear in the route planner to remove the working draft. The saved copy remains available through Load saved. Use your browser settings to review or delete all stored data for discovereurope.eu and to change location or third-party-content permissions.

Deleting browser data can remove saved routes and the video preference. Blocking local storage can prevent Save on this device from working. You can decline optional location and video features and continue using the destination guides.
