Valencia and Alicante both combine city sights with beaches, but they suit different trips. Valencia has the larger cultural programme and neighbourhood range. Alicante is more compact and easier to pair with a short coastal break.

Rail links the two cities, and local trams extend along parts of the coast. Stay in both if you have five or more days rather than treating one as a hurried return trip.
