St Paul’s Bay, Buġibba and Qawra

St Paul’s Bay, Buġibba and Qawra form a broad northern resort area with different waterfronts, evening atmospheres and transport positions.

Start planning
The main square in Buġibba

These names are often grouped together, but the area is too spread out to treat as one village. Buġibba centres on a busy square and seafront, Qawra occupies the outer peninsula, and older St Paul’s Bay continues west along the water.

Choose the district, not just the resort name

Buġibba suits visitors who want restaurants and activity close by. Qawra has a long outer seafront and larger hotel zones. Older St Paul’s Bay can feel more residential. Measure the walk to the actual bus stop and waterfront before deciding where to stay.

Set the right expectation for the shore

Much of the local coast is rocky rather than sandy. Lidos and marked access points can make swimming practical when the sea is calm, but conditions remain important. Għadira Bay and Golden Bay require separate journeys and should not be presented as neighbourhood beaches.

Use the area as a north-island base

Regular buses connect the resort with Mellieħa, Valletta and other main corridors. Traffic can slow the route, especially in busy months. The location works well for northern outings, but repeated south-island days will involve longer travel than a map distance suggests.

Check boat details independently

Several boat excursions advertise departures from the wider bay area. Operators, boarding points, landing permissions and weather policies differ. Confirm the exact pier and what is included directly, particularly for Comino, rather than relying on a generic resort sales description.
