Barcelona, Madrid, Seville and Granada form a clear one-way rail route, but four major cities still make this an active trip. Eleven calendar days provide 10 hotel nights and protect full days for Barcelona architecture, Madrid museums, Seville’s historic centre and the Alhambra.

Travel south without doubling back

Start in Barcelona and finish in Granada, or reverse the complete route when flights work better. Adding a return to Madrid wastes a day and creates another long station transfer.

The three city-to-city stages follow established high-speed or long-distance corridors. Check the dated operator results because departure times, brands and direct services can change.

Give Barcelona one booked architecture day

Use the arrival day for the Gothic Quarter, waterfront or the neighbourhood around the accommodation. Keep the Sagrada Família and any second Gaudí interior on a separate full day, with the official entry time setting the order.

The third day can focus on Montjuïc, a museum or a slower neighbourhood route. Crossing repeatedly between distant booked sites turns a useful Barcelona stay into a transport exercise.

Keep Madrid around two connected areas

After the train from Barcelona, use a short central walk rather than entering a major museum. Give the Prado and Retiro area one full day, then choose the Royal Palace side or a Toledo excursion for the final day.

A Toledo day removes most of the remaining Madrid time. Travellers who want several large museums should stay in Madrid and add Toledo to a longer version of the route.

Use Seville as a two-night stop

Two nights support an arrival walk and one complete sightseeing day. Put the Real Alcázar and cathedral area together, then slow the route during the hottest part of the afternoon.

Córdoba is a worthwhile rail day from Seville, but it does not fit this itinerary without adding another night or removing Seville’s only full day.

Protect the exact Alhambra appointment

Granada receives two nights and the final three calendar days, including departure. The Alhambra needs its own day, with the Nasrid Palaces visited at the exact time printed on the official ticket.

Use the remaining arrival and departure time for the lower centre or a measured Albaicín route. Do not place a fixed onward journey close to the palace appointment.
