Delphi is a demanding but workable day from Athens when the transport is chosen first. The archaeological site and museum are the priorities, while Arachova and other mountain stops belong to a separate plan.
Decide if a same-day Delphi return suits you
Delphi can be visited from Athens in one long day by scheduled coach, organised tour or car. The public coach is practical only when the dated outward and return services leave enough time for both the sanctuary and museum.
An overnight is the better choice for a slower archaeological visit, limited mobility, a winter journey or an onward route through Central Greece. Arachova and mountain walks should not be added to the basic coach day.

Give the sanctuary and museum separate time
The archaeological site climbs above the modern village across exposed, uneven ground. Begin outside when the weather is suitable, moving from the lower entrance towards the Temple of Apollo and higher monuments only as time and energy allow.
The Archaeological Museum explains major finds from the sanctuary and deserves its own visit. Check the official opening arrangement for both parts, since temporary restrictions or altered hours can change the best order.

Keep the first visit focused on Delphi
The Sanctuary of Athena Pronaia stands apart from the main archaeological entrance and requires additional walking or a short road movement. Add it only after protecting the museum and return journey.
Arachova lies on the Athens road but is not a dependable extra stop on a public-coach day. Travellers with a car can consider it only when parking, daylight and the confirmed site schedule leave a sensible margin.

Plan for slopes, exposure and changing weather
Expect steep sections, polished or broken stone, limited shade and few places to shorten the climb once inside. Supportive footwear, water and a route matched to the traveller matter more than reaching every upper monument.
Summer heat can make the exposed ascent unsafe in the middle of the day. Winter brings shorter site hours and possible mountain weather, while heavy rain or official safety decisions can restrict access at short notice.
Confirm the coach and protect the Athens return
Use the KTEL Fokidas schedule for the exact date and follow the departure point printed on the current booking. Allow time to find the correct coach in Athens rather than relying on an old station description.
Reach the Delphi stop well before the return departure. Later public options can be limited, so the museum, lunch and any lower sanctuary visit must finish around that fixed journey rather than the other way around.
