Day trip

The Three Cities from Valletta

A harbour day from Valletta using the ferry to Cospicua, then a measured route through Birgu and one second city.

The Three Cities face Valletta across the Grand Harbour, but their lanes, waterfronts and fortifications need a full day. The ferry offers the clearest arrival when operating, with public buses as the practical fallback.

Check the harbour ferry before walking downhill

Confirm the current crossing before leaving upper Valletta. If wind or an operational notice interrupts the service, use the saved bus route instead.

Begin on the Cospicua waterfront

The ferry arrival leads naturally towards Cospicua and Birgu. Follow the water rather than climbing immediately into several separate neighbourhoods.

Give Birgu the main part of the day

Use the lanes, waterfront and one confirmed heritage interior as the core route. Fort St Angelo needs its own opening and access check.

Add Senglea only when the route still fits

Senglea provides another harbour viewpoint but adds walking, slopes and a return connection. Remove it before rushing the principal Birgu visit.

Keep both ferry and bus returns available

Check the last useful crossing and the current bus alternative. An overnight suits a quieter harbour evening, but Valletta remains the stronger transport base.
