Ways to adjust the route

Use dated buses through Utena to Ignalina, then a prebooked taxi to Palūšė; allow 240 to 390 minutes and protect the last transfer.

This route combines Anykščiai’s cultural sights and forest setting with the lakes of Aukštaitija National Park. It is designed for travellers who want a rural Lithuania trip, not a rapid loop between city hotels.

Begin with two nights in Anykščiai

Anykščiai is a useful first base because its main sights and forest activities can fill a complete day. Choose accommodation near the town if arriving by public transport, or outside it only when a car makes evening and meal arrangements simple.

Choose one national-park base

Palūšė is a practical reference point, but accommodation should match the lakes, trails or paddling operator being used. The park covers a broad area and changing bases each night adds driving without improving the experience.

Reserve boats or guided activities before travel. Rural restaurants and shops can be limited, so check meals and supplies rather than assuming every lakeside settlement has visitor services.

A car makes the route coherent

Public transport can reach towns and selected settlements, but it does not support a flexible lake circuit. Without a car, base the trip around one operator or accommodation provider that offers transfers. Keep the final night closer to an onward connection if departure time is fixed.
