Lithuania’s short Baltic coast contains three different trips: Klaipėda as a port city, the protected Curonian Spit and the more conventional resort of Palanga. Ferry choices matter for the spit, while season determines how busy and service-rich each base feels.
Klaipėda is the transport anchor
The city remains useful beyond summer because it combines rail connections, accommodation and indoor sights. Travellers continuing to Smiltynė must use the appropriate ferry terminal for foot passengers or vehicles and allow time for onward transport.
The Curonian Spit needs advance booking
Nida and nearby settlements are busiest in summer, when accommodation and convenient buses face the greatest demand. Spring and autumn offer quieter landscapes but fewer seasonal services. Wind and exposed paths should influence daily walking plans.
Palanga has a different rhythm
Palanga is easier for a straightforward resort stay and does not require a ferry from the mainland. Summer brings the fullest programme and busiest beach. Outside peak months, check museums, restaurants and transport while treating the coast as a walking destination rather than a guaranteed beach holiday.
