Heviz thermal lake guide

Heviz is a spa town built around a natural thermal lake, close to Keszthely and the western end of Lake Balaton.

Start planning
Thermal lake and bath buildings at Heviz

Heviz is best planned around its thermal lake rather than as another Balaton beach town. Bathing access, water conditions and health guidance are specific to the lake complex. The compact centre supports a relaxed stay, while nearby Keszthely provides the clearest cultural addition.

Make the thermal lake the focus

The lake complex has controlled entrances, changing facilities and its own operating information. Check current access and any health advice before visiting, especially when planning a long bathing session.

Heviz is not a conventional open beach. The warm water and depth create a different experience, and flotation aids or local guidance may be relevant for some visitors.

Keep the rest of the stay slow

The town centre, park and walking areas fit naturally around the lake visit. This makes Heviz suitable for a slower overnight rather than a full schedule of distant sights.

Keszthely adds Festetics Palace and a Lake Balaton waterfront nearby. Give that town a separate block of time instead of squeezing it around a pre-booked spa visit.

Arrive through Keszthely

Heviz has no mainline railway station. Regional buses provide the practical connection from Keszthely and other western Balaton points.

Driving can help with wider rural routes, but it is not necessary for the town itself. Confirm the final bus leg when travelling onward in the evening or outside the main season.
