Ten days gives each Baltic capital more than a quick Old Town visit. The route works north to south or in reverse, and the final direction should be chosen around flights and the current cross-border timetable rather than habit.

Three nights in each capital

Tallinn needs time beyond the medieval centre, Riga beyond its central squares, and Vilnius beyond Cathedral Square. Three nights in each city normally provides two usable sightseeing days and enough flexibility for a museum closure or poor weather.

Confirm the international trains

Cross-border rail in the Baltic states has improved, but departure times, through-running arrangements and engineering changes still need a dated check. Buy the correct operator ticket for each leg and note whether a transfer is required on the chosen day.

Do not place a fixed evening event immediately after an international journey. A buffer protects against timetable changes and gives time to reach accommodation from the station.

Add depth, not another capital

With extra days, choose one side trip that shows a different landscape: Lahemaa from Tallinn, the Gauja valley from Riga or Trakai from Vilnius. Adding Helsinki, Warsaw or Kaunas can work, but only after the three existing stays remain long enough to justify the journey.

Plan each Baltic capital
