Cospicua, also known as Bormla, is the connective centre of the Three Cities. Its dock basin and surrounding streets show the maritime and industrial scale of the harbour more clearly than a route limited to Birgu’s historic core.
Follow Dock 1 around the water
The regenerated dock basin is the clearest starting point for Cospicua. Historic buildings and newer public space sit beside a working harbour context. Walk the waterside slowly and look back toward Birgu and Senglea to understand the geography.
Add the fortification lines if time allows
Cospicua spreads inland beyond the waterfront toward substantial defensive works. Reaching them adds slopes and distance, so the extension suits visitors with a full Three Cities day. It should not replace the more coherent dock and peninsula route on a first visit.
Respect the active town centre
Bormla remains a lived-in city with shops, parish life and residential streets. Church access can change during services and local events. The most useful visit notices this daily layer without treating ordinary neighbourhoods as a staged heritage display.
Use Cospicua as the connecting walk
Birgu, Cospicua and Senglea can be linked without transport between them. Continue around the creek and across the landward side rather than doubling back. Ferry and bus connections then allow the route to finish where it makes practical sense.
