The castle and river town fill a focused day, while an overnight creates time for a marked walk or another Semois viewpoint.
Give the castle a proper visit
Bouillon Castle rises above the river and contains steep passages, uneven surfaces and viewpoints that take time. Check the current visit format, event schedule and access details before arrival.
The town below is compact. Link the riverfront and old streets to the castle rather than driving between short stops.
Choose one route into the valley
The Semois landscape offers marked walks with very different gradients and surfaces. Select one route from current local information and carry an offline map, water and weather protection.
A scenic viewpoint can require a longer climb or road transfer than the map suggests. Do not combine several distant loops simply because they share the Bouillon name.
Plan the final connection first
Bouillon has no railway station. Bus access is possible on selected routes, but a car gives much more flexibility for accommodation and trailheads around the Ardennes.
A full day covers the castle and town. One or two nights are more useful for walkers and for anyone continuing through the Semois valley.
