Protaras travel guide

Protaras is a southeast Cyprus resort arranged around bays, beaches and accommodation clusters, with Cape Greco close to the south.

Start planning
Protaras Beach in Protaras

Protaras suits a coast-focused stay, but it is less compact than a single resort strip suggests. Choose the bay and accommodation first, then use buses or walking for the wider coast.

Choose the bay before the hotel

Fig Tree Bay is the best-known centre, while Pernera and other clusters create different walking distances and evening atmospheres. Check the map position rather than relying on the general Protaras label.

A seafront stay reduces daily transport, but popular areas become busy in high summer. Quieter accommodation may trade convenience for a longer walk or bus ride.

Spread beach days across the stay

One bay is enough for a relaxed day. Moving between several beaches can turn a coast holiday into a transport exercise, especially when parking is busy.

Facilities, shade and accessible routes vary. Check the specific beach and current sea conditions before deciding where to spend the day.

Use Cape Greco as the outdoor day

The park lies south of Protaras and is served by selected coast buses. Identify the trailhead and return stop before setting out.

Start early, carry water and avoid cliff edges in strong wind. A shorter official route is better than an improvised walk in heat.

Know what changes outside summer

Some restaurants, activities and resort services reduce hours outside the main season. Confirm what matters before booking a very quiet period.

Local buses connect Ayia Napa and the coast, but frequency can change. Keep taxi details for evenings that do not match the final service.
