The Great Ķemeri Bog Boardwalk is the best-known walk, but it is only one part of a large protected area. Choose one official route, confirm its current access and allow enough time for the final connection from the station or road.
Start with one official trail
The Great Bog Boardwalk gives an accessible view across raised-bog pools and dwarf pines. Stay on the boardwalk, give wildlife space and do not step onto the fragile bog surface for a photograph.
Other park sites include Lake Kaņieris, sulphur-spring landscapes and forest routes, but they are not grouped around one visitor car park. Treat each as a separate outing unless current transport makes a combination realistic.
Solve the last part of the journey
A train can reach Ķemeri station, but the station is not beside the Great Bog Boardwalk. The onward distance and route need checking against daylight, weather and each traveller’s walking ability.
A car or taxi shortens the approach, yet parking and road access can change during works or busy weekends. Use designated access, never stop on a verge that blocks emergency or local traffic, and take valuables with you.
Expect exposed conditions
The boardwalk has little shelter. Sun, wind, frost and sudden rain feel stronger than in the forest, while wet or icy timber can be slippery even when nearby roads look clear.
Start early enough to finish in daylight and carry water, insect protection and suitable layers. Drone, fire and nature-protection rules should be checked through current official notices before the visit.
Keep the visit low impact
Bog habitats recover slowly from trampling. Use toilets and waste points where provided, take rubbish out and avoid loud playback around birdlife or other visitors.
Dawn can be beautiful but creates transport and safety problems for anyone without a car. Only plan an early visit when the approach, return and visibility are all secure.

Questions about Ķemeri National Park
How long do I need at Ķemeri National Park?
Allow half a day for the boardwalk and transfers. A second site usually needs a separate day or a car.
Can I reach the Great Bog Boardwalk by train?
Train is possible for part of the journey, but the trailhead is not beside Ķemeri station. Check the final route carefully.
Is the boardwalk suitable in winter?
It may be open, but ice, snow, wind and short daylight can make it unsafe. Follow current park notices.
Can I combine Ķemeri with central Jūrmala?
Yes by car or a carefully planned transport day, though separate outings give both places more time.
